North West England, Isle of Man and Northern Ireland

27th June - 10th July

The North West region of the Relay is made up of Cheshire, Cumbria, Greater Manchester, Merseyside, Lancashire and extends into Northern Ireland and the Isle of Man. This region covers a wide area and has so much to offer, especially for walkers and horse riders. It is home to a large part of the 205 mile long Pennine bridleway which runs down the spine of the country following roughly parallel with the Pennine Way. It provides access for horse riders and cyclists as well as walkers. The trail extends from Derbyshire to Cumbria and includes the Mary Towneley Loop and the Settle Loop.

This region has something for everyone with its rich history, rolling hills, beautiful valleys, vibrant cities and amazing beaches (known to be where the famous Red Rum trained). It is home to England's largest national park - the stunning Lake District which is a popular tourist destination owing to its stunning lakes and hosting Englnd's highest mountain - Scafell Pike.

In addition to mainland counties the region includes the beautiful Isle of Man, situated in the Irish Sea between England and Ireland. It is renowned for its natural beauty, dramatic coastline and charming countryside and remains unspoiled with over 40 per cent of the island unpopulated and uncultivated.

Northern Ireland makes up the final part of the North West region with its sandy beaches, forest parks, lakelands and breathtaking mountains. It really is a haven for anyone who enjoys the great outdoors but equally has the culture and nightlife of big cities such as Belfast, with its rich seafaring history. There really is so much to see and do in this region, the options are endless!
